1979-2008 organist at St Augustine's Church, since fall 2011 organist at the Jesuit Church, Vienna.
1981-1994 guest professor for the off-campus study program of the DePauw University, Indiana, in Vienna. November 2003 artist-in-residence at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. 2008 researcher-in-residence of the Swiss Thyll-Duerr Foundation on Elba, Italy.
Gailit started his career as a performing artist in 1976, giving organ and piano recitals and master classes, with invitations to international music festivals in most of the European countries, Russia, the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Soloist in numerous productions for radio and television stations in Europe and the USA, as well as in orchestra concerts with leading orchestras from Vienna, Berlin, and Amsterdam, under renowned conductors. As a recording artist Gailit has released well received CDs, both solo and with choir and orchestra. Regular invitations as a juror for competitions.
Gailit is also active as a musicologist, music publisher, author, arranger, and composer.
